Registration has started and will close September 17
Practice Starts the last week of September
Questions I keep getting asked
1. When is practice? We cannot tell the practice schedule until registration is closed and we know what teams we have in each age-division. Typically practices are Tuesday Thursday or Monday Wednesday. The younger age-division 5:30 - 7:00 PM and the older age-division 7:00 - 8:30.
2. What is the Game schedule? We make the game schedule up when we know all the teams in the league. Most likely will not be until the last Sunday in September at the earliest. Last year we had to schedule 54 teams every Saturday started at 8:00 am and the last scheduled match was 3:30 PM. We switch all the teams around to be fair.
3. Do you have a Spring Season? No we do travel season from December to June. June to August is Camp season.
Program
We will be running volleyball feeder program for the high schools based on the “Rocket Football Model”. Each school will run their teams like “Rocket Football” or “Pop Warner” with each school running their own program competing against area school districts. Coaches training and Saturday tournaments are being hosted by Krush VBC in Niles, MI.
Since High School volleyball programs play in tournaments many weekends during the season, it is difficult for High School coaches to run Saturday scrimmages for the developmental program. The program will run concurrent with the current season not to interfere during the winter with the basketball feeder programs.
Just like basketball, volleyball players need to learn the game at an earlier age for a school program to be competitive. Most youths have been learning soccer, basketball, and softball at a young age and volleyball not until 7th grade. This is the only youth recreational volleyball league in the Michiana area.
The fall 2023 program was the eleventh year of the program. Last year we had 54 teams in the league. The schools that participated were Dowagiac, Brandywine, Lakeshore, Cassopolis, Eau Claire, and Jimtown. We hosted “house teams” for schools that did not run their own program but had students that wanted to participate. Our house teams in 2021 hosted players from Buchanan, Niles, Berrien Springs, Bridgman, St. Joseph, River Valley, Penn, Mishawaka, South Bend, Christ the King, Corpus Christi, St. Pius X, Coloma, Centerville, and Elkhart. All “house teams” practice at Krush Courts. In 2023 we had 54 teams in the league. The fee to play on a “House Team” is $50.00.
League Play
Age-Groups
There will be two Divisions 2nd - 4th grade and 5th and 6th grade. Some schools have asked about 1st grade playing. We will leave that decision to the discretion of each School. Krush “house teams” do allow 1st graders to participate.
**NEW Boys
In the past we allow boys to play in the league with girls. We will still be planning on this. Due to Indiana and Michigan starting High School Volleyball for boys, we are hoping to expand to where we have boy’s divisions in the future.
Registration
Registration for house teams will start the last week of August and will close Sunday September 15th. All registration for house teams is on-line at the Krush website www.krushvbc.com. If your school is hosting teams please do not register with Krush. Your school will have their own registration.
Coaching
We do use volunteer coaches for this league. We run a coach’s clinic to help any of the coaches learn to teach at this level. We are always looking for coaches

Why Summer tryouts?
We used to do only November tryouts but it has caused a problem getting into the best tournaments since the entry to the tournaments is either August 1st or September 1st. This makes it very difficult to determine what teams to enter. Three years ago, I could enter in November or December and still get in. This is not the case now. Most of the bigger tournaments like the World Challenge and National Qualifiers fill within hours of their opening of registration. That is 2-3 months before a November tryout.
Most of the clubs in the country have moved to a summer tryout a long time ago, that is why the tournaments have been filling so early. If we want to compete at that level, then we need to know what teams to enter in August and September.
Just for example below is the link to the Mid East Qualifier which opens team registration September 1. Last year the divisions we usually play in were filled within 48 hours. All of the divisions were full in October before we had tryouts. They give warning about this on their registration page. The link is below
